A. Understanding the meaning of sanctification in Scripture

1. Definition

a. Hebrew: q daš; Greek: hagiaz

In the Scriptures, the word “sanctify” literally means “to set apart for holy use.” Anything that was reserved for God’s use was sanctified.

b. By implication “to sanctify” means: to make holy (free from anything that corrupts, defiles, or makes imperfect), pure, and blameless.

b. The sacrificial animals (Lev. 22.21)

c. The entire nation of Israel (Lev. 11.44)
