St. Basil, the Nicene Creed, and the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit (continued)
This amended version of the original Nicene Creed (technically the Nicene- Constantinopolitan Creed) is commonly referred to simply as the “Nicene Creed” since it is the final version of the statement started at Nicea. It is accepted by Catholics, Orthodox 2 , and Protestant Christians alike as the summary of scriptural teaching which separates orthodoxy from heresy.
2 Although the Orthodox do not include the phrase
“and the Son” (which was added at a later date) in the statement
about the Spirit proceeding from the Father.
