The Role of the Holy Spirit in Spiritual Guidance Terry G. Cornett

Through the Holy Spirit, God has made himself available to believers so that they can be in constant, friendship relationship with him, receiving ongoing guidance and direction as to what he wants from them.

I. Key Texts

A. Rom. 8.14 (ESV) - For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

B. Isa. 63.10-14 (ESV) - But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them. [11] Then he remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people. Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put in the midst of them his Holy Spirit, [12] who caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to make for himself an everlasting name, [13] who led them through the depths? Like a horse in the desert, they did not stumble. [14] Like livestock that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. So you led your people, to make for yourself a glorious name. C. John 10.1-5 (ESV) - Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. [2] But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. [3] To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. [4] When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. [5] A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.
