Phrased another way, “Is it possible that the Bible teaches all of these views?” Is there anything wrong with a view that the people in the Bible (and people today) did not all experience the Holy Spirit’s work in their lives in exactly the same way? In regard to the relationship between gifts and fruit John Stott has written: “The Spirit gives different Christians different gifts. . . but he works to produce the same fruit in all” ( baptism and fullness ). Perhaps we can equally say, that once the Spirit has taken up residence in a person (at conversion) he then empowers people in different ways, at different times, and with differing manifestations but always for the same purpose which is to reproduce the life of Christ in them.
Please check to make sure that students understand and are making progress on their exegesis of Romans 8.1-27. Remind them about the ministry project and answer any questions they might have.
