The Spirit of Prophecy

Christians of all denominations acknowledge that the Spirit’s most important prophetic work is the inspiration of the Scriptures. The Scriptures are the source and measuring rod of all authoritative knowledge about God and his will. When Christians speak about the Spirit’s prophetic work today, however, different Christian traditions differ in their emphasis. Some equate prophetic ministry with preaching (the Spirit’s gift to illuminate the prophetic text) while others see a continuing role for prophetic words which guide and direct the Church (within the bounds of Scripture). Which of these two approaches more closely describes your own church’s experience?
