1. The Doctrine of Inspiration.
a. Definition: By inspiration of Scripture, we mean that supernatural influence of the Holy Spirit upon the Scripture writers which rendered their writings an accurate record of the revelation or which resulted in what they wrote actually being the Word of God (Millard Erickson, Introducing Christian Doctrine , p. 61).

b. The Scriptures themselves testify that they are authored by the Holy Spirit.
(1) The Spirit spoke by David, 2 Sam. 23.1-2.
(2) The Old Testament prophets were carried along by the Spirit rather than their own will, 2 Pet. 1.20-21.
(3) Jesus affirmed that David spoke by the Holy Spirit, Matt. 22.43.
(4) The early Christian believers affirmed that David spoke by the Holy Spirit, Acts 4.25. (5) Paul says that all Scripture is “breathed out” by God, 2 Tim. 3.16. (6) The Old Testament Scriptures are quoted as an authentic voice of the Holy Spirit, Heb. 3.7.
