Conclusion

» The Holy Spirit brings people to an awareness of their need for Christ through his ministry of conviction. » Repentance is a gracious act of God through his Spirit, not a simple act of human effort. No human being seeks, believes, understands, and accepts the Word of God apart from the active ministry of the Holy Spirit. » True repentance involves a turning from sin and a change of purpose resulting in a changed mind, heart, and will. The following questions were designed to help you review the material in the second video segment. It is difficult for people to accept that their sinfulness makes it impossible for them to truly seek God, understand his truth, and accept his salvation on their own initiative. Christian leaders need to be clear that only the Spirit of God can show a person their true condition and draw them to Christ. Conviction and repentance does not spring from an act of human determination but from the gracious ministry of the Holy Spirit. Be clear and concise in your answers, and where possible, support with Scripture! 1. What scriptural evidence do we have that people are unable to repent and seek God apart from the drawing of the Holy Spirit? 2. What does it mean to experience conviction of sin? What is the role of the Holy Spirit in conviction? 3. What does the Hebrew word shubh mean? What does the Hebrew word nâcham mean? What does the Greek word metanoia mean? How do each of these words help us more fully understand the biblical meaning of repentance? 4. Repentance involves a turning of the whole human personality to God. What does repentance mean in regards to the mind, the heart, and the will?
