Segment 1: The Spirit Who Regenerates and Adopts

The objective of this segment is to show how the Holy Spirit brings God’s salvation to us by making us brand new people and placing us into the family of God. After hearing this segment we should understand that:

Summary of Segment 1

• The Holy Spirit is the means by which God transforms us at conversion.

• Because of the “regenerating” work of the Holy Spirit in salvation, we are changed into new people with a new capacity to hear and obey God. • The Holy Spirit is the way that God comes near to us at conversion, adopting us into God’s family, and causing us to understand that God is our loving Father. • The Holy Spirit baptizes us into Christ Jesus, uniting us to him in his death and resurrection.

The word RABBIS (plural for Jewish Rabbi) will serve as a memory aid for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

A. In the Jewish tradition, a rabbi was someone authorized to teach the Scriptures and explain how people should apply them in their lives. In the same way the Holy Spirit is our divine teacher and counselor who both reveals God’s truth to us and also makes clear to us how we can live lives that please God.
