b. Jesus breathed on them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” 20.22.
(1) Gen. 2.7 – then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
(2) Job 33.4 – The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
(3) Ps. 33.6 – By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. (4) Ezek. 37.9 – Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”
c. The promise of the Spirit fulfilled
(1) John 14.16 – And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.
(2) John 15.26 – But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. (3) John 16.7 – Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. (4) Acts 2.38 – And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
