3. John’s reply on the primacy of the ministry and person of Jesus , 3.27-30

a. The principle of representation : A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given to him from heaven, 3.27.

b. I am not the Christ but was sent to bear witness about him, 3.28.

c. I am the friend of the Bridegroom (cf. Notice that same allusion in Jesus’ own teaching, Matt. 22.1-14; 25.1-13; as well as the apostles, 2 Cor. 11.2; Eph. 5.22-24; Rev. 21.2, 9; 22.17).
