3. The necessity to go through Samaria, John 4.4 – And he had to pass through Samaria. [5] So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

a. A well-known site to this day, within the view of Mount Gerizim, and was considered holy to the Samaritans

b. “Holy sites,” while unusual or repugnant to most Westerners, were common among the ancients, and still considered an important religious notion to many today (e.g., Mecca in Saudi Arabia).

4. Jesus’ true humanity, John 4.6 – Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.

a. The “sixth hour” normally means noon; Jesus and the disciples had been journeying for about six hours .

b. Jesus was wearied from his journey : He experienced every dimension of human life.
