Holy Week recalls the events of our Lord’s suffering and death. We recall his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, his giving of the commandments on Maundy Thursday, his crucifixion and burial on Good Friday, and the solemn vigil of Saturday night before Easter Sunday.

TODAY’S THEME The Lord God Helps Me, Isaiah 50.4-9a

In Isaiah 50, Isaiah prophesied regarding the Messiah’s openness to the Lord God, who granted to him the tongue of a disciple in order that he might know how to sustain the weary with a word. The Messiah would be taught of God, and would neither be rebellious nor a backslider. He would give his back to those who beat it, and his cheeks to those who would pull out his beard’s hair. But because the Lord GOD helped him, he would neither be disgraced nor put to shame.

God of grace and comfort, God who empowered your Son to endure the suffering from the hands of unjust men, enable us to stand fast in the love of the Savior, and grant us the grace and power to neither hide nor shrink back from disgrace and spitting. Teach us to depend on your help, for we will never be ashamed when we trust in you. In Jesus’s name we pray, amen.
