Holy Week recalls the events of our Lord’s suffering and death. We recall his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, his giving of the commandments on Maundy Thursday, his crucifixion and burial on Good Friday, and the solemn vigil of Saturday night before Easter Sunday.

TODAY’S THEME The Messiah Dies, Psalm 22

Psalm 22 describes the psalmist’s agony, groanings, and miseries as he cries out to God. Although the LORD appears to be both distant and unresponsive to his pleas, still, the psalmist affirms God’s holiness and sovereign care over his life and trusts in God alone for strength and help. Jesus cries out this psalm on the Cross, confidently declaring that God will rescue him from his persecutors and ultimately save and vindicate him. The psalmist ends his prayer with praise to God in the midst of the congregation and declares that all families of the earth will give praise to God.
