On Pentecost we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit to earth on Christ’s believers, his infilling of the people of God, the Church. Through him, the third person of the Trinity, Jesus our Lord is now present with his people. The Spirit is the guarantee of the promised inheritance to come. We ponder the fullness and mystery of our God’s person and work in our celebration on Trinity Sunday. THIS WEEK’S THEME Holy, Holy, Holy: “God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity”, Isaiah 6 Isaiah’s vision of the LORD on his throne reveals the glory of God. Isaiah saw the exalted LORD seated upon his throne in glory, surrounded by his mighty angels who were constantly acknowledging him for creative power and holiness. Crying out in God’s presence and aware of his own uncleanness, Isaiah became vexed and acknowledged his own and his people’s sins. In response, one of the angels touched Isaiah’s tongue with a burning coal from heaven’s altar, which cleansed the prophet, and freed him to volunteer to go to his people in the LORD’s stead. The heart of our faith, its chief mystery, is the reality of the glorious majesty of God, whose power ensures the fulfillment of his own purpose and will.
