Central element SLIM The sermon is the central element of the service. EPIC Celebration of Christ’s accomplishments is the central element of the service, of which the sermon is only one part. Communion SLIM Communion helps me remember how much Christ loves me . EPIC Communion is a mysterious dramatization that reminds us of Jesus work to defeat the enemy and rescue a people to be his own; his real and powerful presence in the Church today; his imminent return to take the throne and receive the Church at the wedding banquet. Baptism SLIM Baptism is something I do to express my personal relationship with Christ. EPIC Baptism is a command of Christ to show a change of allegiance from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God; from partnership with the world to divine connection to the body of Christ; from living for self to a life of union to the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. Pastor SLIM A pastor facilitates my personal relationship with Christ by providing for my feeding. EPIC A pastor mobilizes the church as the army representing Christ in a community, reminding the people of their identity as People of the Story . Goal SLIM Everything is done with excellence so I can invite others to come and have their needs met. “We need to fill those seats!” EPIC Everything is done to point to the Story of a God who acted, is active, and is coming again to fulfill all things, so we can be faithful to the Story. “We need to be focused on Christ, even if no one else comes.”
