Master the Bible: How to Get and Keep the Big Picture of the Bible's Story

Chapter 6 Growing to Maturity Series 4

Objectives Welcome to Chapter 6, Growing to Maturity – The Measure of Christ’s Fullness, Series 4 . This study highlights the vision of becoming a mature disciple of Christ and making disciples of Jesus in obedience to his Great Commission. As our Rabbi and Teacher, we mature as we follow him and make disciples where we live and work. After your reading, study, discussion, and application of the materials in this chapter, you will be able to: • Understand and embrace God’s commitment to his children, that they mature in Jesus Christ, grow to full maturity, and make disciples of others as the Spirit leads. • Appreciate the importance of faithfulness, reliability, and integrity in striving after Christ’s best, and being and making disciples in the Church. • Discover that we do not seek to master the Bible for its own sake, but in order that we might live as disciples of Christ and his Kingdom, bringing honor and glory to him in our lives. • Defend the idea that discipleship is intimately connected to being incorporated into the life of the Church, i.e., that biblical discipleship matures as one lives life in the body of Christ. • Recognize the close relationship between physical and spiritual parenthood, and the privilege we have to raise spiritual children under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and his appointed leaders. • Recite the essential elements of the profile of a mature disciple of Jesus Christ, and be able to memorize and cite specific Scripture in support of each element.
