stage-oriented way that leads from observing the text in its original context, discerning timeless principles in that context that apply to all life, and then identifying specific and particular applications of those principles in their lives and ministries. This is the essence of The Three-Step Model which underlies TUMI’s biblical hermeneutic (cf. The Three-Step Model in our Appendix). Assisting our students in thinking with these steps in mind is essential for their effective completion of the Exegetical Projects. a. Your students should be evaluated on all aspects of the criteria listed in the assignment. (Please note that we evaluate based on the concepts of which they are writing, not the grammar or spelling in their writing. You will find that students are at various skill levels in those areas. The key is the student’s ability to understand the Scripture and explain/ interpret it in such a way as to help relate it to their lives and ministry. Don’t get bogged down in the voluminous side paths and roads associated with traditional biblical exegesis. If your students comprehend and become well practiced at the activities, mindsets, and procedures connected to the three major steps of biblical exegesis, eventually they will become skilled workmen and workwomen who need not be ashamed, readily able to rightly handle the Word of truth (2 Tim. 2.15). c. Print out copies of the appendices The Three-Step Model and The Exegetical Project: Using the Three-Step Model to Exegete Scripture for your students. Both of these appendices can be found at www.tumi.org/mentor . b. Concentrate on enabling your students to understand and apply the principles of the The Three-Step Model hermeneutic.
