Objectives for Lesson 4 Follow-Up and Incorporation

1. Defend the idea that the key to successful evangelism is following up new Christians by incorporating them into a local assembly of believers as quickly as possible. 2. Provide a biblical definition of follow-up and incorporation of new believers in the Church as “incorporating new converts into the family of God so they can be equipped to grow in Christ and use their gifts for ministry.” 3. Recite the reasons for follow-up: follow-up of new believers is critical because new Christians are vulnerable to attack from the enemy, they need to be reoriented to their new faith in Christ, and they need immediate parental care as little newborns in Christ. 4. Give the five biblical methods of apostolic follow-up: prevailing prayer, immediate personal contact with the new believers, sending representatives for encouragement and challenge, regular personal correspondence, and appointing leaders over them. 5. Lay out the biblical rationale for baptism and membership with a local body as a means of publicly testifying of their new-found faith. 6. Lay out the biblical rationale for baptism and membership with a local body as a means of publicly testifying of their new-found faith.
