Session 3 Jesus Christ as Lord of the Harvest The Ground of Certainty for Ministry in a Multi-Cultural and Unchurched Society

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause right eousness and praise to spring up before all the nations” (Isaiah 61.11, NASB). Righteousness and praise springing forth from every nation, of course, won’t happen without a vital, revived global community of disciples who burn with the fire of a world vision. Christians are not meant to be a collection of spectators waiting fro the Kingdom to suddenly materialize before our eyes. The Church is the agent of God’s worldwide purpose. We are to be more like a caravan of ambassadors going forth to bless the families of the earth than a royal entourage basking in the sunlight of God’s love for us.

I. The Risen and Living Lord Jesus Christ Is Lord of the Harvest.

A. All authority in heaven and earth has been bestowed upon the risen Christ.

Matt. 28.18-20 (ESV) – And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Phil. 3.20-21 (ESV) – But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, [21] who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
