Boldly receiving the power of God within us The Mo’ Power Code

¶ Although we live each day as if we are ordinary, weak human beings, we don’t use human plans and methods when we fight our spiritual battles.

¶ We know and believe that God delivered us from the bondage of Satan by the power of the living Christ. Jesus set us free through his death, and the blood he shed on the Cross. He rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and brought us into his Kingdom of light. ¶ God’s Holy Spirit now indwells us by faith, and he daily gives us the strength to overcome. As soldiers of Christ the Victor, we are learning to plug into God’s power and gifts, as we strap on his armor to make our stand against the world, our sin nature, and the devil.

¶ We are unashamed, and now we stand up and represent Christ and his kingdom. We say “No!” to the longings of old sin nature, refuse to compromise with the world, and constantly talk back to the devil’s lies and strongholds of deception every day. ¶ We are ambassadors for Jesus, testifying to God’s Good News in the Spirit’s power to those in our oikos circle. We are Kingdom agents–we stand up for Christ in our homes, on our jobs, and in the neighborhood. We won’t shrink back or back down.

¶ Through God’s power, we are strong, we are ready, and we will win. We are fighters, powerful in battle, leaving no man behind, standing in battle array in this war of the worlds.

¶ In Jesus we have mo’ power, and we can do all things through him who gives us the victory. Amen, and amen! — An Affirmation of Our Victory in Christ

The Most Fundamental Power of All The most fundamental power of all is the power to be rescued— from the power of the Curse, from sin (and its effects), and from Satan.

Everybody needs a Savior.

No more under the Curse From the curse of Adam

Romans 5:12-21 (ESV) – 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. 16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. 17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death

Romans 6:12-18 (ESV) – 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. 15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

The slavery of sin has been abolished. ~ Romans 6.6

John 8.34-36 – 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Romans 6:6 (ESV) – 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

II. Delivered from the Slavery of Sin

Matthew 12:22-30 (ESV) – 22 Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” 25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26 And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? III. Delivered from the Devil’s Bondage

A. W HAT ’ S UP ? Jesus appeared to destroy the works of the devil, 1 John 3.8

1 John 3.8 (ESV) – Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

B. B REAK IT DOWN ! The devil is the deceiver of the whole world, Rev. 12.7-10

C. C HECK THIS OUT . Everyone who believes in Jesus is released from the bondage and power of the evil one, Acts 26.16-18

Acts 26.15-18 (ESV) – 15 And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, 17 delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles— to whom I am sending you 18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Hebrews 2:14-15 (ESV) – 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death , that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

2. What you got to get: Repent and believe to be set free, Rom. 10.9-10

Romans 10.9-10 (ESV) – 9 Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

You Need a Savior No people can set themselves free from the bondage of the strong man on their own, unaided by Christ.

Everybody needs a Savior.

I. By His Indwelling Holy Spirit

A. W HAT ’ S UP ? The Spirit of God dwells in us, Eph. 1.13; Rom 8.9; 1 Cor. 3.16-17

II. By the Power of the Cross

A. W HAT ’ S UP ? By faith, we have died to sin, its nature and its influence, Gal. 2.20

Galatians 2.20 – I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

B. B REAK IT DOWN ! We have been crucified to the world, and need not yield to its sway or lure, Gal. 6.13

Galatians 6.14 – But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

¶ Although we live each day as if we are ordinary, weak human beings, we don’t use human plans and methods when we fight our spiritual battles.

The Power to Overcome Is Yours Through the Power of the Blood

1 John 1.5-7 (ESV) – 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Exodus 12.13 – The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.

I. Through the power of the Blood

A. W HAT ’ S UP ? Christ has become our Passover!, 1 Cor. 5.7: Acts 20.28

1 Cor. 5.7 – Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

Acts 20.28 – Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

B. B REAK IT DOWN ! We are redeemed and justified by the blood, 1 Pet. 1.18-19; Rom. 5.9

Romans 5.9 – Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

2. By it, we are forgiven (we can forgive ourselves and others), Matt. 26.28; 1 John 1.9

1 John 1.7 – But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Matthew 26.28 – For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

3. We are washed from our sins, and made right with God, Rev. 1.5-6

4. We are rescued from legalism and self-righteousness, to serve God from the heart, Heb. 9.13-14

Hebrews 9.13-14 (ESV) – 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

The Blood applied ensured deliverance and release.

5. It clears our conscience regarding our past acts, Heb. 9.14; 1 Tim. 1.5

1 Timothy 1.5 – The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

6. We are reconciled, and so we can now deal with broken relationships with others, Eph. 4.31-32

Answer Satan has blinded minds as to the scope and stakes of the fight.

A. W HAT ’ S UP ? The devil is a roaring lion seeking someone to devour, 1 Pet. 5.8-9

1 Peter 5.8-9 (ESV) – 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
