Christian Ministry

I. Cognitive Goals

The purpose of the Department of Christian Ministry is to provide training in the practice of lay and pastoral leadership within the context of the urban church.

The learners demonstrate understanding:

A. O f Christian leadership which includes biblical, theological, historical, cultural, and experiential perspectives. B. O f the principles of discipleship and ways to equip the local congre- gation and its members for service in the Church and the world. C. Of approaches to witnessing and evangelism. D. O f approaches to effective communication of biblical truth including preaching and teaching. E. Of pastoral theology and the pastoral role. F. O f key principles relating to Church government, administration, management, and leadership. G. Of the process of administering the Lord’s Supper and baptism. H. O f the process of performing weddings, funerals, dedications, and blessings. I. Of approaches for planning and leading effective, biblical worship. J. Of how to identify and facilitate the use of spiritual gifts. K. O f principles and approaches to care for and counsel persons who have special needs. L. O f Christian marriage and family life and how to assist people during times of family difficulty. M. O f guidelines for maintaining physical, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional health.

II. Affective Goals

The learners demonstrate:

A. Desire to treat all persons with love and respect. B. Compassion for the unsaved. C. Empathy for the hurting. D. Generosity in meeting human need. E. Sensitivity toward the feelings of others. F. Forgiveness when hurt or wronged. G. Integrity in all situations and relationships. H. Freedom from the love of money. I. Impartiality in personal relationships.
