II. Affective Goals
The learners demonstrate:
A. C ommitment to the Church’s universal mission to take the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all peoples and nations. B. Hope in their attitude toward the city, in light of the Kingdom of God. C. C ommitment to seek the welfare of the city in light of the Kingdom of God. D. Commitment to ministry to the total person. E. Appreciation for the dignity and worth of all persons. F. R espect for the poor and oppressed, and confidence in their leadership potential. G. Courage in opposing injustice and oppression. A. E xegete a passage of Scripture and contextualize its message for a particular urban audience. B. R esearch demographic, cultural, or economic information about their city and/or community and develop a ministry response which incor- porates what has been learned. C. O bserve a variety of urban churches, Christian development projects, and para-church programs and look for principles, approaches, and behaviors which help or inhibit effective ministry. D. C ontribute to the field of urban theology by developing oral or written presentations which address issues related to urban life.
The purpose of the Department of Urban Mission is to provide training in the history, theology, and practice of missiology, urban church planting, and urban community development.
