II. Tell the Story: Joshua never retreated or backed down, even in the face of constant trials, setbacks, and obstacles.

A. Joshua was built for battle : regardless of the odds or the situation, he was always on the attack.

1. Joshua with Caleb were on the attack even before they engaged the enemy: chosen as spies at Kadesh-Barnea, Num. 13-14.

2. Joshua moved God’s forces towards engagement, crossing the Jordan, sending spies to scout out the land, eventually hooking them up with Rahab, Josh. 2.1 – And Joshua the son of Nun sent two men secretly from Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lodged there.

3. Joshua prepared for war by allowing his guys to be circumcised before the battle, and then walking around Jericho in a silent parade before God delivered the city to him, sparing Rahab!, Josh. 5-6.

4. Joshua wins Jericho by the shout of the trumpets and the cry of the soldiers!, Josh. 6, cf. Josh. 6.20-25 – So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him,
