WEEK 16

The Lenten Season, a forty-day period starting on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday of Holy Week, calls us to reflect on Jesus’s suffering, crucifixion, and death. As disciples of the humble Nazarene, we embrace his lowliness and humility, seeking to share the mind of himwho was obedient to death, even death on a cross.

THIS WEEK’S THEME O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Luke 13.31-35

In spite of Herod’s threats to kill our Lord Jesus, he set his face to go and face his mission in the place which killed the prophets – Jerusalem. Our Lord lamented over Jerusalem, “How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’” For generations the Lord sent prophets and seers to that great city, yet they refused to hear his word, and ultimately rejected the very presence of God’s own Son.

Daily Devotional Guide Preparing Our Hearts

Invocation: Our Prayer of Acclamation Dear Father, the example of Jerusalem’s hardness of heart reveals our need to be ever vigilant about our fitness and readiness to listen to and obey your offers of love and grace. Though you sent prophets and seers to that great city, they refused to hear your Word, and ultimately rejected the very presence and word of your own Son. Make us tender and ready
