T he S eason after P entecost

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost July 3 - 9, 2022 • Proper 9

WEEK 32

On Pentecost we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit to earth on Christ’s believers, his infilling of the people of God, the Church. Through him, the third person of the Trinity, Jesus our Lord is now present with his people. The Spirit is the guarantee of the promised inheritance to come. We ponder the fullness and mystery of our God’s person and work in our celebration on Trinity Sunday.

THIS WEEK’S THEME The Great Confession: A Revolutionary Vision Get Your Pretense On, 2 Corinthians 5.17-21

To live as a citizen of the Kingdom, we must see ourselves in light of God’s Word concerning us. We who believe in Christ have been grafted into a Story so big that the entire universe and all of time will not contain it. We are now, by faith, recipients of the Kingdom’s authority and rule, baptized by the Spirit as members into the body of Christ. We have been granted an entirely new identity with a new nature, set free from the futility of empty religion and legalism, all in order that we might represent Christ in this world as his ambassadors and agents.

Invocation: Our Prayer of Acclamation Eternal God, thank you for the power of the message of reconciliation. You were in Christ, reconciling the world to yourself, and now through the Gospel, the nations can be forgiven in you again. Grant us grace to represent your name among them as ambassadors, that Christ may be seen and embraced as the righteousness of God. In his name we pray, amen.
