Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost September 11 - 17, 2022 • Proper 19

WEEK 42

As Lord of the harvest, Jesus has commissioned his Church during this age to go and make disciples of all nations. During this season after Pentecost, let us obey Christ’s command and share the Gospel to the ends of the earth, gathering in the harvest of souls so ripe for reaping. As Christ’s hands and feet in the world, let us both show and tell of his salvation to a dying and hurting world. This is a season of harvest.

THIS WEEK’S THEME Living in theWay: A Zeal to Represent Share in Christ’s Sufferings, 1 Peter 4.12-19

We rejoice in so far as we share in the sufferings of Christ. Jesus’s own life serves as the pattern for all Christians. Following Jesus will inevitably involve imitating him in both sacrifice and suffering. We ought not be surprised at suffering and adversity. Instead, we must recognize that suffering for the cause of Christ is one of the great privileges given to those who represent him in this world.

Daily Devotional Guide Preparing Our Hearts

Invocation: Our Prayer of Acclamation Thank you, Father, for giving us the privilege of sharing in the sufferings of Christ. He gave himself for us in order that we might know you, and now, we embrace his pattern of suffering as our own. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, that we may imitate our Lord both in the spirit and action of his sacrifice for us. Give us courage to stand in the face of opposition and persecution, and enable us to represent you with honor in the midst of this fallen world. For Christ’s sake we pray, amen.
