Weekly Reflection on the Priesthood of All Believers The purpose of believers’ being built up is that they would be a “holy priesthood” that offers “spiritual sacrifices” acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (1 Pet 2:5). The emphasis of the former phrase is on the communal nature of the priesthood – namely, that believers are a community of priests who, by virtue of God’s election in Christ and the sanctifying work of the Spirit, together participate in the benefit of direct access to God.
