Kingdom Texts in the Old Testament
Exod. 19.3-6 (ESV) - . . . while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: [4] You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. [5] Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; [6] and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” 2 Sam. 7.12-16 (ESV) - When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. [13] He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. [14] I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, [15] but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. [16] And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’” 1 Chron. 14.2 (ESV) - And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel. 1 Chron. 16.20 (ESV) - . . . wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people . . . 1 Chron. 17.11-14 (ESV) - When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. [12] He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. [13] I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, [14] but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever. 1 Chron. 22.10 (ESV) - He shall build a house for my name. He shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel forever.
