V. Celebrationism – Acknowledgment, Delight, Critique and Relationship – “Alongside”

A. Definition – Tendency to see all cultures as significant and unique, and intentionally celebrates the differences between cultures while 1) critiquing its immoral elements according to a biblical vision and, 2) arguing against exclusion and bigotry on the basis of the differences

B. Example – Martin Luther King, Jr.

C. Issues

1. Grounded in a Christian vision of God’s creation

2. Ethic of a Christian community, and its prophetic message

3. Affirms culture as a distinctly human phenomenon

4. Attaches no pejorative connotation to cultural identity or preference
