2. Worship is the corporate action of the gathered community of Christ (Webber, Common Roots , p. 126).

a. Not by or for unbelievers

b. Not done “up front” as though believers were an audience

c. Participation of the entire body of believers gifted and available to the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12-14)

d. Song, celebration, worship, praise, testimony, response

3. Worship as hearing the Word of God, as rehearsal of the Christian faith

a. Presentation not seen as intellectual fare, or the center of worship service

b. The Word as proclamation of God’s cosmic story and redemption plan both as anamnesis (“You are there”) and prolepsis (“prophetic perfect tense” of under- standing Scripture)

c. Affirming the revelation of the Father, incarnation of the Spirit, and inspiration of the Holy Spirit

d. Preparation for the Word by an acknowledgment of God’s holiness, forgiveness, and readiness to respond in faith and obedience
