58 Sacred Roots Workshop: Retr ieving the Great Tradi t ion in the Contemporary Church

constitute the ancient Christian community’s reflection on the central confession of Christian faith, the same rule that has been guarded from ancient times till today, which summarizes for us the meaning, wonder, and glory of the Story of God for his glory and the universe. We incorporate new believers into the Church, which pre- pares them for baptism, affirms them as the elect of the Church, and equips them to live the baptized life as new creations in Jesus Christ. (Our confession of faith, our baptism into Christ, our allegiance to the Rule of Faith, and our affirmation of the truth of the Vincentian Canon) 2. His Life in Us . Sing, proclaim, interpret, pray, and enact the Story through the liturgy in Word and sacrament, during our regular, dynamic gathering of Christian assembly in worship. In addition to offering our God spiritual sacrifices acceptable to him, we also provide witness to the Story in our worship of Word and Table to both the saved and lost alike, especially nurturing and giving pastoral care to the elect as we walk together in shared spiritual journey through the Church Year. (Song and celebration [along with the other arts], homilies and teachings of the Word, re-enactment through the Lord’s Supper, and foreshadowing the Second Coming of Christ) 3. Living in the Way . Be formed spiritually and flesh out corporately the Story of God, expressing our faith and hope in our personal and communal identification with God’s Story through the Christian Calendar celebrated and embodied in the Christian community. Sojourning together in vital spirituality rooted in the Christ event, we live together in common identity and shared spirituality our devotion to Christ and his Kingdom.
