The Ancient Witnesses

Chapter 6: The Fullness of Time

In our survey of the Story of God we had at last arrived at the four Gospels. The Incarnation —Christ Jesus, the Word of God, come in the flesh—was our subject. As the Apostle Paul explains, But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5 Mentor was talking with some witnesses, so Cesar and I went to look at the books he had checked out for the upcoming session. On the table next to the lectern were commentaries on the gospels of Matthew and Luke, a book entitled Agreement among the Evangelists , and another entitled Proof of the Gospel . Two other volumes had strange titles—one was Diatessaron and the other Opus Imperfectum. We waited for the authors to claim their works, hoping to make conversation with them.
