and making connections through the disciplined application of the Word to our lives.

• Reproduce the ways in which we establish contact with our hearers in the teaching situation specifically as we prepare and teach lessons that pay careful attention to the culture and life situation of the students–their language, the ways in which they understand, process, and communicate ideas and truths. • Give evidence that you understand the key principles related to communicating the Word of God effectively in the teaching lesson, including the many ways in which we can paint a picture and engage our students in such a way as to make the meaning of the text come alive for them, as directly and concretely as possible. • See how use of Jesus’ method of teaching stories, metaphors, images, and symbols with passion and clarity can make the communication of the Word dramatically more effective, especially with urban cultures which tend to take these elements more seriously than others. • Explain how to address specific subjects that are appropriate to the audience and the situation, but keep the focus on the continuous retelling of the Story of God in the life and work of Jesus, and our application of his will for our lives as citizens of the Kingdom. • Gain skill in making connections in your teaching situations, i.e., learning to interconnect the content of your communication of the biblical message with the practical concerns, needs, and challenges of your students’ lives. • Demonstrate how to draw out key principles which summarize the teaching imaged and spoken forth during the content section of the teaching, learning to allow room for the Holy Spirit to challenge the students, while, constantly admonishing the students to relate the truth of God to their lives in a specific and particular way. • Learn and apply some practical suggestions in designing an effective teaching session, including how to build the entire lesson around teaching aims, developing a clear outline of your ideas, communicating in new ways, keeping your teaching focused on obeying the words of Jesus from different dimensions. All is to be done in conscious dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
