What meaning do all of the various terms for preaching in the NT carry, and why is that meaning critical for our understanding of preaching today? 2. What does it mean to say that a preacher is a herald of the truth of God? What modern day examples do we have that correspond to this ancient idea? 3. What is the relationship of a preacher of the Word of God to an ambassador ? List out the ways in which a preacher and an ambassador are similar. How are they different in the tasks and roles they are assigned to fulfill? 4. In what way does the biblical definition of a preacher correspond to the role and ministry of the OT prophet? Why is it so essential for both prophet and preacher to never change or amend their message to the audience of God’s own choosing? 5. What are the elements in the NT that make the preaching ministry distinct from other forms of NT ministry? Why is the preaching ministry so oriented around evangelism, the Gospel, and the presentation of the Good News in non religious contexts ? How ought their preaching styles, content, and methods to affect our own today? Explain. 7. Down through history, the Church enriched the NT understanding of preaching; what are some of the themes they highlighted? How do these enriched concepts help us better understand the nature of the preaching ministry today? 8. What are the major difficulties connected to an effective preaching ministry today? How do issues of culture and language and style relate to these difficulties? Can these difficulties be overcome apart from God’s intervention, and what is our role in ensuring success in our preaching ministries in the world and the Church?
