D. The call to preach is connected directly to the pastoral calling.
1. Solid preaching protects the people of God from false prophets and error, Acts 20.28-30.
2. Solid preaching feeds the people of God and builds them up in their inheritance in Christ, Acts 20.32.
3. Solid preaching provides insight and illumination into God’s will, helping the people of God know where God is leading them.
1
E. The call to preach is also accompanied by God’s direction: God sends his preachers and prophets to the places and people he chooses .
1. God sent Moses to Pharaoh to speak his word on his behalf, Exod. 3.10.
2. God sent Jonah (against his will!) to go and proclaim repentance to the inhabitants of Nineveh, Jonah 1.2.
3. God determines where his preachers and prophets are sent; it is not based on convenience, self-selection, or where you want to go.
a. The nature of preaching is going to the places and people that God wants you to, Isa. 6.8-10.
b. It does no good to protest the calling of the Lord; if he calls you to preach his word and proclaim his message, your best bet is to say yes, Exod. 4.10-13.
