In this lesson we saw how significant the ministry of preaching is, and how central it is to the evangelization of the lost and the edification of the saved, and explored briefly the calling and character of the preacher, as well as the specific content God has given to us to communicate to a world which desperately needs to hear a word from God. In our next lesson on the equipping ministry we will concentrate on the role of the Holy Spirit in the art of biblical preaching. We see how our relationship with the Holy Spirit affects every dimension of an effective preaching ministry, from selecting a passage and preparing the message, to influencing the audience and confirming the delivered message with power. In addition to the centrality of the Holy Spirit’s ministry in preaching, we will also examine the three steps of planning out, delivering, and following up on the preached Word. As those charged with the high honor of communicating the Word of God, we must first establish contact with hearers, communicate the content of the Word clearly and boldly, and make connections with the truth of the message and the lives of the audience. We will seek to understand and apply these and related ideas and issues in our next lesson together.
