II. Set Goals: Brainstorm possibilities. What possible things can you do this year to make your dream a reality?
Nehemiah spies out the city in order to set specific goals for the work, Neh. 2.11-15.
A. Definition
1. Setting goals involves making a list of all the possible things you could do this calendar or fiscal year that would help you accomplish the dream God has given. 2. This step involves reading your situation, brainstorming a list of possible activities or initiatives that would “move the ball down the field” this year in fulfilling your call.
B. Elements
1. At the start, do not limit yourself; brainstorm freely and openly as you make your list.
2. Do a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. Understand internally what your strengths and liabilities are, and externally what your opportunities and threats are right now. 3. Silence the judge and the critic; think of every possible goal you might want to seek. (Reserve the sorting and evaluating for the next step.)
