The Messiah Vindicated

Segment 1: The Resurrection and Appearances of Jesus

Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis

For our faith and practice, for our understanding of the message of the New Testament, no doctrine or teaching is as significant to our conviction as the resurrection of Messiah Jesus. For believers, the entire credibility of our theology, faith, and ministry is based on the historical certainty of Jesus having been raised from the dead. The Gospel accounts provide several key citations of some of the various appearances of Jesus, beginning with his resurrection at the tomb up until his appearance to the Apostles at the Sea of Galilee. Of all the evidence given to testify as to Jesus of Nazareth’s Messianic credential, nothing compares to the resurrection. It alone provides the clearest witness to the vindication of the Messianic identity of Jesus Christ. Our objective for this segment, The Resurrection and Appearances of Jesus , is to enable you to see that: • The doctrine of the resurrection and the resurrection of Christ is the most significant doctrine in Christian belief. • The entire credibility of our theology, faith, and ministry is based on the historical certainty of Jesus having been raised from the dead. • The New Testament provides a clear and compelling testimony about the appearances of Jesus after his resurrection, beginning with the fact of his resurrection at the tomb up until his appearance to the Apostles at the Sea of Galilee. • No other fact or testimony provides a clearer witness to the vindication of the Messianic identity of Jesus Christ than this one unequivocal fact: Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead.
