people and God, reflected the glory of the Father (by contrast), and was messenger of the Lord, both to God’s people and his enemies.
• Melchizedek, the Priest of the Most High God, is an OT character type of Jesus Christ, whose name resonates with the title of Christ (King of righteousness, King of peace), who was both a priest and a king, and who possessed no priestly lineage or genealogy. Like Christ, he was called the Priest of the Most High God, received tithes from God’s people, blessed faithful Abraham, and his priestly order is both eternal and unchanging. • David, the King of Israel, is an OT character type of Jesus Christ. Like the Lord Jesus, David was born in Bethlehem, grew in lowly reputation, and was chosen and anointed by God to rule over God’s people Israel. Like Christ, David was a shepherd (risking his life for his sheep), was sent to his brothers who derided him, and who, as God’s warrior, defeated God’s enemy who had oppressed God’s people. Also, promises were given regarding his future reign—God made a covenant with him that the Kingdom would never depart from his house, and his reign would be an administration of justice and equity to all the people.

Is Jesus’ and the Apostles’ Bible Study Method Different than Ours?
After more than twenty years of teaching the grammatical-historical hermeneutic, I can see only one problem with it: it doesn’t appear to be the way the biblical writers always did it! When we examine how the biblical writers used previously written Scripture, we see that they seemed to “discover” meaning there that, judged by its original context, can hardly be imagined to have been in the mind of the original author. This problem is especially evident in the way the New Testament authors used Old Testament passages to prove that Jesus Christ fulfilled prophecy (or to make some theological point.)
