John 3.14-15 - And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, [15] that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. Going back to God’s experience with his people Israel recorded in the OT, Jesus said, “ As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness [the OT experience] so must the Son of Man be lifted up [the NT correlation] that whoever believes in him may have eternal life [the contemporary application].” This analogy reveals the usefulness and absolute necessity of the OT for us today. It is the foundation that Jesus and the apostles used to explain who we are in Christ and what our spiritual obligation to God is in light of it . The OT is not the same as the obsolete testament ! As the Word of God, it will forever be relevant and important for us, and we ought to seek the analogies so we can be “equipped for every good work” through it. Are you ready for your lesson today, taken from the experience and truths to be learned from the history of Israel? Indeed, it was written for our instruction . After reciting and/or singing the Nicene Creed (located in the Appendix), pray the following prayer: Almighty, everlasting God, who dist give thine only Son to be a High Priest of good things to come: Hereafter grant unto us, thine unworthy servants, to have our share in the company of the blessed; through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord. Amen.
