communings with God about his people and the agony of his wrestling spirit have crowned him as a prince in the things of God. The iciness of the mere professional has long since melted under the intensity of his praying.

~ E. M. Bounds. Power Through Prayer . (electronic ed.). Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1999.

Bounds captures the need for ongoing, focused prayer in order to master these weighty truths of the Word of God. “A prayerful minister has passed beyond the regions of the popular, beyond the man ( sic ) of mere affairs, of secularities, of pulpit attractiveness; passed beyond the ecclesiastical organizer or general into a sublimer and mightier region, the region of the spiritual. ” It is essential that you seek to penetrate beyond mere information to spiritual insight . Only as you pray for yourself and your fellow students can you glean this insight. Take time to lift one another up; ask for wisdom, clarity, courage, boldness, and discipline as you seek to understand these root meanings of the OT for the sake of being a more effective disciple, and a more equipped minister of the Gospel.

Reading Assignment

Please read carefully the assignments above, and as last week, write a brief summary for them and bring these summaries to class next week (please see the “Reading Completion Sheet” at the end of this lesson). Also, now is the time to begin to think about your ministry project, as well as decide your Scripture text for your exegetical project. These are weighty decisions, for these assignments possess great weight in the figuring of your final grade for this course. Therefore, do not delay in determining either your ministry or exegetical project. The sooner you select, the more time you will have to prepare!
