Reading Assignment
It is important that you set aside time to review the material covered in this teaching section. The module study is arranged so that you will be quizzed on the content (the video content) of this lesson in your next class session. Make sure that you spend time covering your notes, especially focusing on the main ideas of the lesson. Read the assigned reading, and summarize your readings with no more than a paragraph or two for each. In this summary please give your best understanding of what you think was the main point in each of the readings. Do not be overly concerned about giving detail; simply write out what you consider to be the main point discussed in that section of the book. Please bring these summaries to class next week. (Please see the “Reading Completion Sheet” at the end of this lesson.) In this first lesson we probed the relationships between the Old and New Testament. We considered the notion of progressive revelation, and how this concept helps us keep our understanding of the Old and New Testaments united in the person of Jesus Christ and his kingdom reign. We also saw how the two testaments complement each other, and how the biblical motif of promise and fulfillment is a helpful perspective to guide us in our study of the Old Testament. We also saw how Jesus is the seed of the woman destined to crush the serpent’s head, recounted in the marvelous promise first spoken in the protoevangelium . We also considered the seed of Abraham cited in Yahweh’s covenant promise. Jesus Christ himself is the fulfillment of both of these OT promises, destined to destroy the devil and bless all the families of the earth. In our next lesson we will discover how the history of Israel, especially its worship in the Tabernacle with the priests, feasts, and festivals, further give witness to Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of God’s promise for redemption to all humanity. We will
