WEEK 25

For forty days after his resurrection, Jesus revealed himself alive to his disciples. On the fortieth day, he ascended to heaven to take his place as Lord and Christ at God’s right hand. Ten days after this, on the fiftieth day after his resurrection, he would send to us the promise of the Father – the Holy Spirit, the pledge of our salvation. Here we ponder the wonder of God’s working, from Easter Sunday to the Spirit’s descent at Pentecost. In the Upper Room, before his passion and death, our Lord Jesus prayed as our high priest to God on behalf of the apostles and all believers. In lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus acknowledged the authority the Father gave him, the eternal life given to those who know him and the Father, and the role the apostles would play in the world coming to know him. His prayer was intimate, profound, and revealing of Jesus’s sweet relationship with his Father. Jesus is our high priest, the sole representative and mediator between God and humankind, who gave his life for the world. THIS WEEK’S THEME The Lord’s Prayer, John 17.6-19
