Weekly Reflection on the Sovereign Love of God Although the church, as the new creation, is not to be equated with the kingdom that is still future, the church is, as George Eldon Ladd states, a witness to the kingdom, an instrument of the kingdom, and the custodian of the kingdom. In that sense the church is the presence of the future in the midst of the old. Although the old creation is dying and will be destroyed (at the Second Coming), a new creation has been born and is growing up in the midst of the old. A new thrust was released in the death and resurrection of Christ. It is here now, present in this life, and will be fully realized in the new heavens and the new earth. For this reason the major emphasis of the church as the new creation is that the church is to be the visible presence of the new creation in the world now. ~ Robert E.
