WEEK 36

During “Ordinary Time” (Kingdomtide), we consider God’s saving acts through the unfolding of our days. As Christus Victor, Jesus is exalted at God’s right hand, and he must reign until his enemies are put under his feet. He is the head of the body, the Church, and now he empowers his people to bear witness of his saving grace in the world.

THIS WEEK’S THEME Christus Victor:

Redeemer: Death and Resurrection, 1 Corinthians 15.3-8 For us and for our salvation Jesus died and was buried. He rose from the dead, appeared to many, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. In this simple set of events lie the redemption and salvation of all things. He died in our place, took the penalty of our sin, bound the strong man, and conquered death. On the third day, he rose from death to eternal life. He appeared to his disciples and to many others. Forty days after his resurrection he ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father. The invitation of the Gospel is to come die with him that we would be raised with him, and seated with him in the presence of the Father forever.
