T he S eason after P entecost

Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost August 8 - 14, 2021 • Proper 14 During “Ordinary Time” (Kingdomtide), we consider God’s saving acts through the unfolding of our days. As Christus Victor, Jesus is exalted at God’s right hand, and he must reign until his enemies are put under his feet. He is the head of the body, the Church, and now he empowers his people to bear witness of his saving grace in the world. THIS WEEK’S THEME Christus Victor: Restorer: Victor over Sin, Death, and Satan, Colossians 2.13-15 In his life, death, and resurrection Christ paid for sin, conquered death, and defeated Satan. The sin and rebellion of humanity bound us in slavery to sin, death, and the devil. We lived in the dominion of darkness destined for the wrath of God. On the cross Christ disarmed his enemies, triumphing over them by his death and resurrection. God erased the debt of sin that stood against us. He made us alive together with Christ, freeing us from death. He rescued us from the power of Satan and transferred us into the Kingdom of his Son. Christ is victorious! Let all the earth rejoice.
