T he S eason after P entecost

Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost October 10 - 16, 2021 • Proper 23 The Season after Pentecost is likewise the season before Advent – it is a season of the blessed hope. As we declare Jesus’ return in every Communion celebration, so we confess that he will assuredly appear in power and glory to complete God’s salvation for the world. He will come in power to rescue his own, to make an end of war and sin, and to restore creation under God’s will. THIS WEEK’S THEME Your Word Is Truth: Divine Inspiration: Through the Apostles and Prophets, Acts 10.39-43 The church is apostolic. We depend on the eyewitness testimony of the apostles and prophets for revelation. The principle of ‘apostolicity’ undergirded the ancient undivided Church’s entire approach to theology, worship, discipleship, andmission. The principle, simply stated, is that onlywhat can be verified to be of apostolic origin, backed by apostolic tradition, and used by apostolic churches can be deemed to be authoritative for the Church of Jesus Christ. The essence of historic orthodoxy, canonical authenticity (i.e., the books of the Bible recognized by the Church as part of the Holy Scriptures), and Christian maturity is alignment withwhat the Apostles, the eyewitnesses of Jesus’ glory, taught, lived, spoke, and commanded. ~ Sacred Roots , pp. 38-39
