The Sovereign Love of God

T he S eason after P entecost

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia! The golden evening brightens in the west; Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; Sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Alleluia, Alleluia! From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, And singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, Alleluia! As sojourners of the Way, we must ever be open to hear and respond to the living voice of God in the Spirit, the Word of God preached in the Church. It is in this spirit of meekness, lowliness, and humility that we celebrate the dramatic impact of the Reformation on the church, and its ongoing legacy for mission, discipleship, and spiritual formation today. We remember our membership, with all the saints through the ages, in the one, holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church of which Christ is the head. And, we share with those saints, the hope throughout the ages that the Lord Jesus will return in power and establish his kingdom reign. To live by faith is to have this hope and do nothing less than be responsive to the risen Christ as he directs his people into his good, perfect, and acceptable will. ~ Words: WilliamW. How.
