Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost November 7 - 13, 2021 • Proper 27 According to God’s holy promise, the saints of Christ will dine at the marriage supper of the Lamb, a feast of love and communion with the risen Lord and Savior himself. The Feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday before Advent, anticipates the day when Christ will reign supreme, and the saints of God will never again leave the presence of their Lord. Divine Sustenance: The Bread of Heaven, Matthew 4.1-4 The Word is integral to the life of the Church and the Christian. It would be difficult to overstate the importance of Scripture. It provides the substance of our faith. It is the raw material for all Christian thinking, worship, living, and witness. Through his Word, God feeds and strengthens his people. Any form of Christianity will be anemic and weak apart from continual interaction with God’s Word. Truly we do not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Invocation: Our Prayer of Acclamation Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea; Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord; My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word!
