T he C elebration of C hristmas

Christmas Day: The Nativity of the Lord December 25, 2020

Christmas celebrates the birth of Messiah, Jesus, who is the incarnation of the Son of God, Mary’s child. He is the Wordmade flesh, the conqueror who enters this fallen world to reveal to us the Father’s love, to destroy the devil’s work, and to redeem his people from their sins.

TODAY’S THEME God Is with Us, John 1.1-14

In the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Word who was with God and was God became flesh and dwelt among us. His glory is as of the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. As we celebrate the Nativity of the Lord, let us affirm the incarnation of God into the earth. The Word which was God and with God, was made flesh and dwelt among humankind. His glory was seen by the apostles, the glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. He alone has made the Father known. In his presence, the Lord now dwells among us.

Preparing Our Hearts

Invocation: Our Prayer of Acclamation Almighty God, who yearly makest us glad in bringing to remembrance the birth of thy holy child, Jesus: grant us a thankful spirit to extol the love all loves exceeding; and allow our voices, even ours, to be joined in the song of the heavenly host, praising thee, and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill to men. For thou in very deed hast come to dwell with men on the earth; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, Amen. ~ Gelasian Sacramentary (Ferguson andWallis, p. 27)
